A mobile money wallet lets you send and receive money, pay bills and buy airtime with your phone. Registration is free and quick if your SIM is registered with your Ghana Card.
MTN MoMo: three ways to register
- MyMTN app: open the app on the SIM you want to register; select the MoMo feature and follow the prompts.
- Online: go to MTN’s online request site (mtncustomeronlinerequest.mtn.com.gh), complete the Mobile Money Registration form, and share the ticket number with MTN through its online channels.
- In person: visit an MTN service centre or authorised agent with your valid national ID (Ghana Card).
MTN says registration is free, and you get an SMS from Mobile Money once it is complete.
Set your MoMo PIN
MTN’s steps: dial *170#, choose the option to Choose PIN, enter a PIN and confirm it. You receive an SMS when it is activated. Then add a recovery number: see protect your MTN MoMo account.
Telecel Cash
Register at a Telecel shop or Telecel Cash agent with your Ghana Card. Once active, the Telecel Cash menu is on *110#. To reset a forgotten PIN: *110# → Self Service (7) → Change/Reset PIN (1) → Reset PIN (2).
Wallet limits
Limits depend on your KYC level. Telecel publishes these:
| KYC level | Daily limit | Maximum balance |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | GH₵3,000 | GH₵5,000 |
| Medium | GH₵15,000 | GH₵40,000 |
| Enhanced | GH₵25,000 | GH₵75,000 |
MTN customers can check their limits with *170# → My Wallet → Check Wallet Limits.
This guide was checked in October 2026. Menus and services change, so if something looks different on your phone, check with your provider.
