The Smart 20 is one of the cheapest new smartphones in Ghanaian shops. It is aimed at first-time smartphone users, students and anyone who needs a dependable second phone.

Here’s what you get, and where Infinix cut corners to hit the price.

Specs come from each maker’s official spec page (Tecno Ghana’s pages for Tecno phones, which list the versions sold here). Makers sell slightly different versions in different countries, so check the box and Settings → About phone before you pay. We do not list cedi prices because they change with the exchange rate and between sellers.

About RAM: Tecno and Infinix advertise “extended RAM” (for example “16GB = 8GB + 8GB extended”). Only the first number is real RAM; the rest borrows slower storage. This guide lists real RAM only.

Display

A 6.78-inch HD+ LCD at up to 120Hz. It is smooth for the price but dimmer than AMOLED phones (Infinix lists 560 nits typical, 700 nits in high-brightness mode), so it is harder to read in direct sun.

Performance

The Helio G81 Ultimate is an entry-level chip, paired with 4GB of RAM and eMMC storage. It handles calls, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and MoMo apps, but heavy games and lots of open apps will slow it down. Pick the 128GB version and add a memory card (up to 2TB supported).

Cameras

This is the weakest area: an 8MP rear camera with dual flash and an 8MP selfie camera. Fine for documents and WhatsApp photos; not for anyone who cares about photos. Both record 2K video.

Battery and charging

5,200mAh should last a full day. Charging is slow: a 10W charger comes in the box, and the phone supports up to 15W with a better charger. It can also reverse-charge at 5W.

Durability

Smart 20 (IP64) is dust-tight and protects against splashes and rain. Treat it as protection against accidents, not permission to swim with it.

Software and extras

XOS 16 on Android 16. Useful extras: a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, an infrared blaster for your TV and decoder, and UltraLink, which lets two compatible Infinix phones call each other with no network up to about 1km in open space. There is no NFC.

  • UltraLink offline calls (up to 1km)
  • Voice noise reduction on calls

Who it suits

  • First smartphone, parents and grandparents.
  • A backup phone for a second SIM.
  • People who still use wired earphones.

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who cares about photos: the Redmi 15C has a 50MP camera.
  • People who want fast charging.

How it compares

Before you buy

  • Buy from the brand’s own shop or an authorised dealer, and keep the receipt and warranty card.
  • Dial *#06# and check the IMEI matches the box. Check the model in Settings → About phone.
  • Check the real RAM and storage in Settings, not just the sticker.
  • Test the cameras, speakers, charging port, fingerprint sensor and both SIM slots before you leave the shop.
  • Water-resistance ratings are lab results and wear over time. Most makers don’t cover liquid damage under warranty.
