It happens to everyone: someone asks for your number and your mind goes blank, or you have a new SIM and never memorised it. Here are the quickest ways to find it.

MTN: dial *156#

MTN’s own instructions: dial *156# and select My Number. Your number is shown, and MTN says no fee is charged for this service.

Any network: check your phone’s settings

  • iPhone: Settings → Phone → My Number (or Settings → Contacts → My Info).
  • Android: Settings → About phone → Status (or SIM status / SIM card status). On dual-SIM phones, pick the SIM.
  • WhatsApp: open Settings and tap your name; your number is shown on your profile.

Phones do not always display the number, especially with older SIMs. If it is blank, use another method.

Telecel and AT

  • Telecel: check your phone settings or the Telecel Play app, or ask Telecel customer care (call 100 or WhatsApp 050 100 0300).
  • AT: check your phone settings, the AT Mobile App, or call AT on 100.

The fail-safe method

Call or text a friend, or your own second phone. Your number shows on their screen. Save it in your contacts as “Me”.

Also handy: your IMEI

Dial *#06# on any phone to see its IMEI number. Write it down: you will need it if the phone is ever stolen.
