Your NHIS membership must be renewed every year to keep using it at hospitals and clinics. Since NHIA moved renewals to mobile phones, millions of members renew without visiting an office.

NHIA has said members can use their Ghana Card to access care and can dial *929# to link their NHIS membership to their Ghana Card. Linking also lets you renew using your Ghana Card number.

Before you start

  • Have your NHIS number (on your membership card) or Ghana Card ready.
  • Make sure your MoMo wallet has enough for the renewal and the PIN is handy.
  • Renew for children and older relatives too; you can usually renew for another member by entering their number.

After you renew

  • Keep the confirmation SMS.
  • Your renewal should reflect at the facility. If a hospital says your membership is expired, show the SMS and ask them to check again.
Renewal is done through *929# and official NHIA channels. Do not pay individuals who promise “fast renewal” for a fee.
