ChatGPT is an AI chatbot from OpenAI that can write, explain, summarise, translate and brainstorm. Ghana is on OpenAI’s list of supported countries, so you can use it here directly, on the web or with the app.
Getting started
- Go to chatgpt.com or install the official ChatGPT app from Google Play or the App Store (check the publisher is OpenAI).
- Sign up with an email address, or with a Google, Microsoft or Apple account.
- Type a question or request in the message box and press send.
How to ask for what you want (prompting)
The more context you give, the better the answer. A simple formula: who you are + what you want + details + format.

What it is good at
- Drafting emails, letters, proposals and social media posts.
- Explaining difficult topics in simple language.
- Summarising long documents you paste in.
- Brainstorming ideas, names and outlines.
- Practising interviews or exams by asking you questions.
What it is bad at
- Facts about Ghana: local prices, laws, procedures and recent news can be wrong or outdated.
- Numbers and calculations can contain mistakes.
- Sources: it can invent references that do not exist.
Use it responsibly
- School: check your school’s rules. Use it to understand and practise, not to submit work as your own.
- Privacy: do not paste passwords, Ghana Card numbers, bank details or other people’s private information.
- Fake apps: only use chatgpt.com or the official app. Scammers sell fake “ChatGPT Pro” access on WhatsApp.
