Full specs and whether it is still worth buying. - Author: Isaac Nana Yaw Annor - Tags: Gadgets, Buying guide The Camon 40 launched in 2025 as the base model of the Camon 40 series. With the Camon 50 now out, it is often cheaper, which makes it worth a look for buyers who want a good camera and AMOLED screen on a tighter budget. *Specs come from Tecno’s official pages, mainly Tecno Ghana’s spec pages, which list the versions sold here. Tecno sells slightly different versions in different countries (battery size especially), so check the box and Settings → About phone before you pay. We do not list cedi prices: they change with the exchange rate and between sellers.* ## Camon 40 specs at a glance | Spec | Tecno Camon 40 | | ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Display | 6.78-inch AMOLED, 120Hz, 1080 × 2436 (FHD+) | | Processor | MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate | | Real RAM | 8GB (sold as “16GB” with 8GB extended) | | Storage | 128GB or 256GB | | Rear cameras | 50MP Sony LYT-700C (1/1.56-inch, OIS) + 8MP ultra-wide, dual flash, flicker sensor | | Front camera | 32MP | | Battery | 5,200mAh | | Charging | 45W | | Water/dust | IP66 | | Software | Android 15 (HiOS) | | Network | 2G, 3G, 4G (no 5G) | | Connectivity | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, FM radio, GPS, USB-C, OTG, infrared remote | | Speakers | Dual speakers, Dolby Atmos | | Size | 164.16 × 74.64 × 7.34mm | | Colours | Galaxy Black, Emerald Glow Green, Glacier White, Emerald Lake Green, Sandy Titanium | **About “extended RAM”:** Tecno advertises memory as, for example, “16GB RAM (8GB + 8GB extended)”. Only the first number is real RAM. The “extended” part borrows space from storage and is much slower. Compare phones by the real RAM figure. ## Camera The 50MP Sony LYT-700C main camera has a large 1/1.56-inch sensor, 2.0μm fused pixels and optical image stabilisation (OIS). It is strong at night for the price. The 8MP ultra-wide includes AI distortion correction so faces at the edges of group shots look natural. - **One-Tap FlashSnap:** double-press the One-Tap button to open the camera; it buffers 15 frames a second and picks the best one. - **AutoSnap:** captures moments automatically without pressing the shutter. - **Multi-focal portraits:** switch between 24mm, 35mm and 50mm framing. - **AI Studio:** AI Eraser 2.0 removes passers-by, AI Image Extender widens photos by 10–40%, AI Sharpness Plus and AI Perfect Face (fixes blurry faces and closed eyes). ## Display A 6.78-inch AMOLED at FHD+ with up to 120Hz and a 94% screen-to-body ratio. It is bright, sharp and smooth: a big upgrade over any Spark phone, though the Camon 50’s 144Hz 1.5K screen is sharper still. ## Performance The Helio G100 Ultimate is a capable 6nm 4G chip, the same family as the Spark 50 Pro. With 8GB of real RAM, everyday use is smooth and popular games run well on medium settings. ## Battery and charging A 5,200mAh battery with 45W charging. That is smaller than the Camon 50 series (6,150mAh in Ghana) but still a full day for most people, and 45W refills it quickly. ## AI features - **Circle to Search with Google:** circle anything on screen to search it. - **AI call assistant:** call noise cancellation, live call translation, call summaries with to-dos, and AI Auto Answer to screen unknown callers. - **Ella assistant** (long-press the One-Tap button), AI Writing, AI Translate and web summaries. ## Camon 40 vs Camon 40 Pro | | Camon 40 | Camon 40 Pro | | -------------------------- | -------------- | -------------------------------- | | Screen | AMOLED, 120Hz | Curved AMOLED, 120Hz | | Selfie | 32MP | 50MP autofocus with eye tracking | | Water/dust | IP66 | IP68 and IP69 | | Storage | 128GB or 256GB | 256GB | | Main camera, chip, battery | Same | Same | ## Camon 40 vs Camon 50 The [Camon 50](https://chale.tech/tecno-camon-50-specs/) adds a newer Helio G200 Ultimate chip, a sharper 144Hz 1.5K screen, a bigger battery, stronger water ratings and a promise of 3 Android updates over 5 years. If the price gap is small, the Camon 50 is the better long-term buy. ## Who it suits - Buyers who want a stabilised camera and AMOLED screen at a lower price than the Camon 50. - People who like flat-style screens and simple screen protectors. ## Who should skip it - Anyone who wants the longest software support: choose a Camon 50 model. - People who work around water: the Pro’s IP68/IP69 is stronger. ## Before you buy - Buy from Tecno’s official stores or an authorised dealer, and get a receipt and the warranty card. - Dial **\*#06#** and check the IMEI matches the box. Check the model name in Settings → About phone. - Check the real RAM and storage in Settings; do not rely on the sticker. - If it is sold as new, the box should be sealed. Test the cameras, speakers, charging, fingerprint sensor and both SIM slots before you leave. - Water-resistance ratings are lab results. Tecno’s own small print says liquid damage is generally not covered by warranty, so do not swim with any of these phones. ## Keep reading - Comparing models?
