- Description: Laptop prices in Ghana swing with the cedi and the seller. Instead of a price list that goes stale, here is how to judge any offer: specs by budget level, new vs UK-used, where to buy and the checks that protect your money.

Ask five shops in Accra or Kumasi for the price of the same laptop and you may get five different answers. Prices follow the cedi, import costs and each seller’s margin. So instead of a price list that is out of date next month, this guide shows you how to judge any offer.

*We do not list cedi prices in this guide: laptop prices in Ghana change with the exchange rate and between sellers every few weeks. Use the specs here to judge any offer.*

## New, UK-used or locally used?

- **New:** full warranty and a fresh battery; highest price.
- **UK-used (imported used):** often business-grade models (ThinkPad, EliteBook, Latitude) with good build quality at lower prices. Battery and screen condition vary.
- **Locally used:** can be cheapest; highest risk. Test everything.

## Specs that sellers fudge

- **Processor generation:** an old Core i7 can be slower than a newer Core i5\. Check the full model (for example i5-1235U).
- **HDD sold as “1TB storage”:** a big hard disk is slower than a smaller SSD.
- **RAM:** check the installed amount yourself.
- **“Touchscreen” and “backlit keyboard”:** test them.

How to check: [check your laptop specifications](https://chale.tech/check-your-laptop-specifications/).

## Before you pay

1. Check specs in Windows yourself (Settings → System → About; Task Manager → Performance).
2. Check battery health with **powercfg /batteryreport**.
3. Test keyboard, trackpad, screen, speakers, webcam, USB ports, Wi-Fi and charger.
4. Check Windows is genuine and activated, ideally Windows 11.
5. Get a receipt and ask about warranty and returns.

**Buying online?** The Cyber Security Authority advises paying only after you receive and inspect goods, and checking that MoMo payments go to a wallet in the shop’s name. See [how to avoid online shopping scams](https://chale.tech/avoid-online-shopping-scams-ghana/).

## Windows 10 laptops

Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025\. If a laptop cannot run Windows 11, it will not get regular security updates. Factor that into the price.

*This guide was checked in October 2026\. Menus and services change, so if something looks different on your phone, check with your provider.*

## Common questions

### Why do laptop prices in Ghana change so often?

Most laptops are imported and priced in dollars, so the exchange rate, import duties and each seller’s margin move the price.

### Is UK-used a good idea?

It can be good value for business-grade models in good condition, but check the battery, screen and specs carefully, and get a warranty if possible.

### Where is it safest to buy?

Established shops that give receipts and warranties. If buying from individuals, meet in a safe public place and test everything first.

### Should I pay a deposit to an online seller?

Avoid paying before seeing the laptop. Pay on delivery after testing, as the Cyber Security Authority advises for online shopping.
