# How to use ChatGPT in Ghana: a beginner’s guide

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot from OpenAI that can write, explain, summarise, translate and brainstorm. Ghana is on OpenAI’s list of supported countries, so you can use it here directly, on the web or with the app.

## Getting started

1. Go to **chatgpt.com** or install the official **ChatGPT** app from Google Play or the App Store (check the publisher is OpenAI).
2. Sign up with an email address, or with a Google, Microsoft or Apple account.
3. Type a question or request in the message box and press send.

## How to ask for what you want (prompting)

The more context you give, the better the answer. A simple formula: **who you are + what you want + details + format**.

| Explain inflation | Explain inflation to a JHS student in Ghana in simple English, with an example using kenkey prices.                                                           |
| Business ideas    | Give me 10 small business ideas I can start in Kumasi with GH₵2,000\. For each, list the main costs and risks.                                                |

If the answer is not right, reply with corrections: “shorter”, “more formal”, “use Ghanaian examples”.

## What it is good at

- Drafting emails, letters, proposals and social media posts.
- Explaining difficult topics in simple language.
- Summarising long documents you paste in.
- Brainstorming ideas, names and outlines.
- Practising interviews or exams by asking you questions.

## What it is bad at

- **Facts about Ghana:** local prices, laws, procedures and recent news can be wrong or outdated.
- **Numbers and calculations** can contain mistakes.
- **Sources:** it can invent references that do not exist.

AI tools make confident mistakes. Always check facts, figures, names, laws and prices against a reliable source before you publish, submit or act on anything an AI writes.

## Use it responsibly

- **School:** check your school’s rules. Use it to understand and practise, not to submit work as your own.
- **Privacy:** do not paste passwords, Ghana Card numbers, bank details or other people’s private information.
- **Fake apps:** only use chatgpt.com or the official app. Scammers sell fake “ChatGPT Pro” access on WhatsApp.

### Is ChatGPT available in Ghana?

Yes. Ghana is on OpenAI’s list of countries where ChatGPT is supported.

### Is ChatGPT free?

There is a free plan with limits, and paid plans with more features. Check OpenAI’s site for current plans.

### Can ChatGPT understand Twi or Ga?

It can handle some Ghanaian languages but is much stronger in English. Check any translation with a fluent speaker before using it.

### Is it safe to put personal information into ChatGPT?

Avoid sharing passwords, Ghana Card numbers, bank details or other people’s private information with any AI tool.
