Ghana now has an approved national plan for artificial intelligence. Here is what has been announced, in plain language.

## The headline

In September 2026, Communications Minister **Samuel Nartey George** said **Cabinet has approved the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2035**.

## What has been announced so far

- **240 civil servants** have received AI literacy training.
- By December 2026, the Ministry plans to extend AI capacity-building to **50 Digital Champions** and to Chief Directors and Directors across the Civil Service.
- The Ministry is finalising a **National AI Delivery Framework** with milestones through 2035.

The full strategy document’s detailed goals had not been widely published in the reports we reviewed. We will update this explainer when it is.

## How it connects to skills

The government’s **One Million Coders** programme includes artificial intelligence among its most popular tracks, alongside cybersecurity, data analytics and project management. See [the One Million Coders programme](https://chale.tech/one-million-coders-programme/).

## What it could mean for ordinary people

- More AI training opportunities through government programmes and universities.
- Government services may increasingly use AI, which raises questions about data protection and fairness. Your rights are covered by the Data Protection Act. See [your rights under Ghana’s Data Protection Act](https://chale.tech/your-rights-under-ghanas-data-protection-act/).
- Practical AI skills are becoming useful for many jobs. See [the best AI tools you can use in Ghana](https://chale.tech/best-ai-tools-you-can-use-in-ghana/).
