Freelancing lets you earn in dollars, pounds or euros from Ghana, doing work like writing, design, virtual assistance, video editing, programming and data entry. Here are the main platforms and how to start well.

## The main platforms

| Platform | How it works | Good for |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Upwork | Clients post jobs; you send proposals | Writing, design, admin, development, longer projects |
| Fiverr | You list “gigs” (fixed services); buyers order | Design, video, writing, voice-overs, small tasks |
| Freelancer.com | Bidding on posted projects | A wide range of tasks |
| LinkedIn | Networking and direct client contact | Professional services and remote roles |

## Fees

- **Fiverr:** its terms set a **20%** commission on what sellers earn.
- **Upwork:** charges freelancers a service fee that it shows before you submit each proposal. Check the current rate on Upwork.

## Getting paid in Ghana

Each platform shows the withdrawal methods available for your country in your account settings. Common options used by Ghanaian freelancers include **Payoneer** (which can withdraw to a local bank) and direct bank transfers. Upwork, for example, offers Direct to Local Bank in some countries, with withdrawals usually arriving within a few days. ## How to win your first jobs

1. **Pick one skill** and a clear niche.
2. **Build a portfolio** with 3 to 5 strong samples.
3. **Write a specific profile:** who you help and what results you deliver.
4. **Send tailored proposals** that show you read the job post.
5. **Start with smaller jobs** to earn reviews, then raise your rates.
6. **Over-deliver on communication**: reply fast and meet deadlines.

## Rules to protect your account

- Use your real identity. Platforms verify ID, and fake details get accounts closed.
- Keep communication and payments on the platform, as their terms require.
- Never share your account with anyone.

**Red flags:** anyone asking you to pay a “registration”, “training” or “activation” fee before you can earn; promised daily returns; or earnings that depend on recruiting people. Those are scams. Report them to the Cyber Security Authority: 292 (call or text), WhatsApp 0501603111, report@csa.gov.gh.
