Whether you are buying a used laptop, selling one, or wondering if yours can handle new software, you need to know its real specs. Do not rely on the sticker or the seller’s description; check them yourself.

## On Windows: the quick way

1. Open **Settings → System → About** (or press **Windows key + Pause**).
2. Under **Device specifications**, you will see the **processor**, **installed RAM** and **system type**.
3. Under **Windows specifications**, you will see the **edition and version**.

## Storage and SSD

Open **Task Manager** (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) → **Performance**. Click **Disk** to see the type (SSD or HDD) and size. Settings → System → Storage shows how much space is free.

## Graphics

In Task Manager → Performance, the **GPU** entries show integrated graphics (part of the processor) and any dedicated graphics card.

## Everything in one report

Press **Windows key + R**, type **dxdiag** and press Enter. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool shows the processor, memory, graphics and more. You can save all information to a text file.

## On a Mac

Click the Apple menu → **About This Mac**. It shows the chip, memory, macOS version and serial number. “More Info” shows storage.
