# How to cancel subscriptions on MTN (and stop airtime disappearing)

If your airtime keeps reducing even when you are not calling or browsing, a subscription is the usual suspect: caller tunes, content services, insurance or auto-renewing bundles. The fix is to find the service and cancel it.

## Step 1: find out what you are subscribed to

- **Check your SMS:** services usually send a message when they charge you. Search your inbox for “subscribed”, “renewal” or “charged”.
- **Call customer care:** MTN on **100**; they can list and remove services.
- **Check your call and charge records:** MTN’s statements portal shows your records.

## Step 2: cancel MTN services

| MiLife insurance         | Dial **\*165#**, select option 5 and follow the prompts                      |
| Sunday Special           | Dial **\*550#** → 8 (More) → 2 (Sunday Special) → 99 → 4 (Unsub)             |

Menus and codes change from time to time. If an option number on your phone differs from the one here, follow the option names instead.

## Stop airtime being used for browsing

## Telecel and AT

For services on Telecel or AT, check the SMS from the service for an unsubscribe instruction, or contact customer care (Telecel: 100 or WhatsApp 050 100 0300; AT: 100). Telecel also lets you stop pay-as-you-go browsing through \*700#.

## Avoid new unwanted subscriptions

- Do not reply “YES” or a number to promotional SMS unless you want the service.
- Be careful tapping ads in free games and apps.
- Never dial unknown codes from WhatsApp messages.

If a provider keeps charging you after you cancel and customer care does not resolve it, you can complain to the National Communications Authority.

## Common questions

### Is there one code to cancel all MTN subscriptions?

MTN’s help centre lists separate cancellation steps for each service rather than a single code. If you cannot identify a service, call MTN on 100.

### How do I stop MTN caller tunes?

Dial \*1355# and follow the prompts, or text Unsubscribe to 1355.

### How do I stop data bundles renewing automatically?

Send STOP to 138 by SMS. MTN says this is free.

### Can I get refunds for subscriptions I did not request?

Contact your network’s customer care with the details. If it is not resolved, you can complain to the National Communications Authority.
