Call forwarding (also called call divert) sends your incoming calls to another number. It is useful when you are switching phones, but if you did not set it, it is a warning sign: scammers sometimes trick people into dialling forwarding codes so they can receive verification calls meant for you.

## Cancel all call forwarding on MTN

MTN’s help centre: dial **#21#** to deactivate all call forwarding on your number.

## MTN’s forwarding codes

| Forward calls when… | Turn on | Turn off |
| -------------------------------- | --------------- | -------- |
| You do not answer | \*\*61\*number# | ##61# |
| Your phone is off or unreachable | \*\*62\*number# | ##62# |
| Your line is busy | \*\*67\*number# | ##67# |
| Always (unconditional) | \*\*21\*number# | ##21# |

MTN says call forwarding works for prepaid and postpaid lines, but you cannot forward calls to international numbers.

## Other networks

The same style of codes is standard on GSM networks, and **##002#** is the standard GSM code to cancel all forwarding. You can also check in your phone: **Phone app → Settings → Calls (or Supplementary services) → Call forwarding**. If in doubt, call your network (Telecel 100, AT 100).

## Did you dial a code someone sent you?

1. Cancel all forwarding immediately (#21# on MTN).
2. Turn on two-step verification on WhatsApp. See [turn on WhatsApp two-step verification](https://chale.tech/turn-on-whatsapp-two-step-verification/).
3. Check your MoMo and bank accounts.
4. Report the number to your network and to the Cyber Security Authority (292).

> Never dial a code that a stranger sends you, however official it sounds.
