# How to activate (or turn off) call waiting

Call waiting lets you know when someone else calls while you are already on a call. You hear a beep and can switch to the new call or end the first one. Without it, the second caller just gets a busy tone or voicemail.

## MTN: use the codes

- **Activate:** dial **\*43#**.
- **Deactivate:** dial **#43#**.

These come from MTN’s help centre. **\*43#** and **#43#** are standard GSM codes, so they generally work on other networks too.

## Or use your phone’s settings

- **Android:** open the Phone app → three dots → Settings → Calls or Supplementary services → Call waiting.
- **iPhone:** Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Waiting (on older iOS: Settings → Phone → Call Waiting).

## Using call waiting

- When you hear the beep, answer the new call. Most phones let you **Hold & Answer** or **End & Answer**.
- Swap between calls with the Swap button.

MTN says dial \*43# to activate and #43# to deactivate.

### Can I turn on call waiting in my phone settings?

### Why do callers hear “busy” even with call waiting on?

Call forwarding on busy may be set, or the network may not support it at that moment. Check your call forwarding settings.

### Does call waiting cost extra?

Call waiting itself is normally a free network feature. Check with your network if unsure.
